If you’ve spent any time at all listening to, reading, or watching Design+Style posts and episodes, you’ve probably figured out that I am extremely allergic to pretty much anything outdoors, a ton of foods, but most especially shellfish (both crustaceans and mollusks)....It’s ridiculous. It’s terrifying. It’s a fact of my life.
Quick question: Did you have a snow day this week?
Or possibly three like Dixie did? By Thursday she was climbing up the walls she was so ready to get out of the house. Besides going stir crazy, the other thing that tends to happen when people are stuck in the house is they REALLY notice all the things that bug them about their homes--to the point that they're ready to fix it NOW).
If you live in an area that got hit with a winter storm this week, this week is the perfect time get engagement and interaction on your social media by doing a blog post, Facebook Live video, and other posts asking questions and giving info on ways people can spruce up their homes and how YOU can help!
We all know a “Dee Dee the Designer”. Photos of her work constantly blow up your Instagram feed, her Facebook Live videos greet you daily, and her Pinterest boards are followed by thousands of adoring fans. In fact, more than one of your clients has mentioned Dee Dee’s posts to you. While Dee Dee is “shamelessly” splashing her work all over social media, you’ve chosen to “keep it classy”. Could your minimalist approach to social media be challenging your bottom line? After all, you currently have zero clients in the pipe line. Could the fact that Dee Dee, and her work, being so easily found all over the internet have anything to do with why she’s booked solid? For the next 6 months?
This week was the Visibility Challenge. How'd you do? (If you missed out on it, don't worry! We've got the links in the In Case You Missed It section at the bottom of this post.)
Visiblity Challenge week is always one of our favorite times. It's so much fun to see so many of you getting out there and showing up! And people get super creative with their posts, too. (Sometimes they get super creative at trying to do the challenge without showing their faces.) We also love how encouraging Design+Style Club members are to each other. It makes us grin every time!
Last week, Dixie talked about how empowering it was when she decided to "stop pretending that I was some high-falutin' designer and just flat out tell people what to expect from me in a simple blog post." It was actually something we were both working on at the time, so I wrote a similar post. Here's my version.

Dixie here. If you're having a tough time getting your blog posts written, you should know about Misha Hettie from Uncommonly Good Biz and her Blog Besties program.
You know that gut-wrenching feeling that if you put yourself out there as the face of your business, people will automatically start judging you? Yeah, I'm super familiar with it. Two things about my personality type make that feeling even more overwhelming? I hate being wrong and I hate being thought of as less than. Let's not even start on the thought that putting myself out there online would make it ridiculously easy for judge-y people to actually broadcast their judgement for everyone ELSE to see. SHUDDER.
To market effectively, you need a plan. Visibility is a daily practice that takes nurturing. Here are 8 tips that you can use to grow your visibility...
Being a creative entrepreneur is no joke. You are the one responsible for doing ALL the things. The To-Do list goes on and on. Now, let’s add in your service projects, time with family and friends, routine chores, exercising, remembering to keep up with oil changes, haircuts, and teeth cleanings. If you’re really lucky, you might be able to have time for a hobby. And if you’re a side-hustler, you can pretty much multiply all of that by two.
What a week! On Monday we had NINE interviews with Design+Style Clubmembers (for a very special episode to start off the new year) and Tuesday we got to chat with the fabulous Cheryl Janis. Add in getting ready for a special Facebook video with some of our favorite podcasters and planning for some in-person Design+Style visibility in 2018 and WHEW! Talk about a whirlwind!
By the way, If you haven't finished filling out your Christmas wish list, next week's podcast is going to be all about our favorite things - the services and products that keep our busy lives from being CRAZY busy.
If you’d like to UP your ONLINE and OFFLINE VISIBILITY game, there’s no reason why you can’t. But if you are new to being visible, it can be uncomfortable and difficult to know where to start.
With that in mind, here are 9 reasons why you should join the Visibility Lab...
